NOTE: I will begin to start pre selling again in January for Mid March Shipping. Remember some varieties do sell out soon.
All water lily rhizomes are shipped bare root this means the plant is shipped with most pads removed for easier shipping. However some may have blooms still attached this time of year too! Planting Directions can be found to the left of this page. The water lily's here are mature plants, they tend to be a bit bigger than those I sell on eBay. Starter plants of all these are also available. They will be plants that are at least 1 year old. They will still have leaves and will produce flowers within 2 years of planting.Starter prices are listed below as well as mature in the drop down box below.A photo below also shows you what the starter lilies look like.I have had most of these lilies in my ponds for 20 years!
Important water lily care...these will die if they are not planted correctly. Hardy lilies grow horizontally and best to plant at a 45 degree angle against the edge of a pot pointing bud tip towards center. Lilies have to be potted or planted in pond bottom. If left to float on top of water they will get too hot and die. If the rooting tip is not left exposed from pot soil it will rot and die. You know the rhizome is dead if you cut into it and there is no longer a white color to it, if it is black it is dead.
Lilies will die back at the first frost. They will die if the rhizome freezes so be sure it is below the freeze point in your pond.First of Spring when water temps rise they will send up new shoots and start all over again.click below for a great link to waterlilies.

If you plant your lotus in a pot with holes and drop it into your ornamental pond there is a good chance that the lotus will escape through the holes and grow to fill a large portion of your pond. Our lotus are all intended for ornamental use. Please do not plant them in open water unless you want them to fill the entire area.

How to Plant Lotus:
Put several inches of good topsoil – just plain dirt - into the pot. This topsoil can be purchased in bags at a garden center or dug from your pond bottom or yard. Do not use potting soil; it is too light and will float when water is added. Add enough water to raise the water level to about 2-3” above the soil. Place the tuber into the mud with the growing tips pointed up. Do not cover the tips with soil. If the tuber floats you may weight it down temporarily with a small rock, just be careful not to let the rock break off the growing tips. In a few days the true roots, small hair-like projections, will grow and anchor the tuber into the soil. The rock should be removed at this time. Place the pot in a warm, sunny area. Be sure to replace the water as it evaporates.
The growing tips will soon give way to the first small leaves, called coin leaves or floating leaves. These leaves will float on the surface of the water as they begin the process of photosynthesis to help provide energy for the plant to grow. Within a few days the first aerial leaf will emerge from the water. At this time you can raise the level of the water in the pot. When the weather outside has warmed up and chances of freezing have passed your lotus can be placed on your patio or put into your pond. Remember to plant the smaller varieties of lotus in shallower water.
Any round container with no holes is acceptable for growing the lotus. The size of the pot is determined by the type of lotus you are growing with larger varieties requiring larger pots. The mature size of a lotus can also be affected by the size of the pot in which it grows. The pot can be placed inside a garage to overwinter if needed(so long as it will not freeze).
Lotus plants are heavy feeders,it is best to add some fertilizer tablets at the time of planting.
Suggested pot sizes are:
Small or Bowl lotus – pot 15” or less in diameter
Dwarf lotus – 16-20 “ in diameter
Medium lotus – 18-30” in diameter
Large lotus – 24-48” in diameter
