Birdhouse Kits

Fantastic little birdhouse kits for you to make yourself or with your kids!
These are great to keep inside or outside and make great gifts!
These are also very cute for wedding centerpieces or party tables. They already have the jute hanger and can be placed on a small wired stand.

The bird and the house selection is my choice. The photos show you the styles you may be getting. The houses range in size from 4-5" wide and 6-7" tall.
You will be getting a sandwich bag with enough moss, lichens mushrooms etc to decorate the entire house. Cost is $8.00

Kit Includes:

  • 1 wooden birdhouse(unpainted)
  • 1 mushroom bird(assorted styles)
  • 1 sandwich bag of moss,lichens,mushrooms etc.
  • Pieces of horsetail rush (looks like bamboo)

This is so fun to make and so many variations are possible.let your imagination soar with this and most of all have fun.
This is great to give as a birthday gift anniversary etc.
I also have the moss kit available for your own outside birdhouse.

This photo to your left shows you what your bird might look like when you order the kit. The photo below shows you the assortment of houses that you might get. Requests are welcome but I may not always have the specific house or bird that you want.Photo below shows you what you will be getting in your sandwich bag of moss  supplies for the house.

You can also purchase the LARGE bird house bag which can be used to decorate your own outside birdhouse. You will get a quart sized bag that has the horsetail as well as moss and lichens to decorate your birdhouse. This is also good for the gourd birdhouses I have! The quart bag sells for $6.00.

Photo below shows a bluebird house I had that I just attached moss & lichens too. You will get moss & lichens as well as the really neat dried horsetail rush that looks great added to your house. You can twine the horsetail if you want with raffia to give more of a thatched roof appearance like the pine needle roof below. They can be painted or stained brown as well so your house can appear to have logs on it!

So many ideas to do with this kit. Order more than one to give as a gift! See the birdhouse gourds that already have the hole cut out and perch added for your feathered friend. the hole is either 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" wide. I also have some gourds that are natural or with a buttermilk finish. Choose your variety in the drop down box below.

Kits/Moss/Gourds

Photo above shows you the assorted styles of gourds you might get when you purchase your gourd birdhouse.Hanging can be done in several ways.attach to stem, drill small holes through the top and string leather jute etc. through top. here is another idea below using pine needles.

Remember to seal your birdhouse with a spray or wipe on lacquer to protect it from the elements.

The horsetail rush pieces can also be used like this for another cool roof! You can buy extra pieces of the horsetail & the pine needles for this variety of roof for only $3 a bag which will include enough stem pieces to do 1 normal sized roof.

Gourd birdhouse with a pine needle roof! Horsetail rush can be used as well and both can be ordered separately above.

The photo above shows you the qt.size bag of horsetail you will be getting for $3.00

Steps for making your pine needle birdhouse below:

  • Apply the clear sealer to the exterior of the gourd with a foam paint brush  and allow to dry.
  • Soak your pine needles in warm water until they are flexible.
  • Dampen several strands of raffia to use for twining.
  • Twine a row of pine needles together at about their midpoints adding a single cluster of needles at a time. Keep the clustered ends all at the same distance from the twining. Twined Pine Needles For Gourd Birdhouse Roof - twinedpineneedle.jpg (10507 bytes)
  • Add more raffia as required by lapping the two pieces and using them as one until the new piece is secure.
  • Once you have a row twined together long enough to wind around the neck of the gourd two times, reverse the direction of twining and add several more rows of twining.
  • Trim any stray raffia ends left from the twining.
  • Apply the twined pine needles to the gourd, creating the effect of a thatched roof. I like to use liquid nails because it is strong and the color blends with the color of the horsetail or pine needle. Make the second layer a bit higher than the first to get a nice effect.
  • Suspend your new birdhouse in your garden as a decorative accessory or hang it in a tree to await your new birdie tenants.
